Buying a New Personalised Plate or redesigning an existing plate
KiwiPlates sell personalised plates on behalf of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. Buying Personalised plates gives you the exclusive rights to display the combination on your vehicle.

Choose a Combination
For cars, trucks & vans, there's 3 options to choose from:
Fixed Format
Three letters followed by one, two or three numbers or, One, two or three numbers followed by three letters.
Flexi Format
Any combination of four, five, or six alphanumeric characters
Premium Format
Two or three alphanumeric characters.

Add a design
Choose to add a design and text colour to your Personalised Plate or redesign your standard government issue plate. Choose from over 50 designs including new Black Plates.

Make them Now, or Later
You can choose to make your plates now or later
- You have a vehicle registered in your name
- The registration is current and the vehicle is ready to have the plates attached
- Once approved by KiwiPlates, your order will go straight to the manufacturer and be delivered to you within 7 to 15 days.
- You can order your plates today without having them manufactured straight away
- Once your order is approved you will receive a certificate confirming your entitlement to your chosen plate combination.
- You will be able to contact the manufacturer (Licensys) to have the plates made anytime you choose.
- Manufacturing and delivery is FREE within 180 days of your order being approved. After 180 days there is a seperate fee, payable to Licensys.

Pay now, or Later
Choose a flexible payment option.
Pay with the convenience of your debit or credit card. Please note KiwiPlates apply a 1.9% (incl.GST) processing fee to payments using a Visa, Mastercard or AMEX
With Afterpay you can receive your order now and pay in 4 equal fortnightly payments with no interest. When you click 'PAY NOW WITH AFTERPAY' you will be redirected to Afterpay to complete your order.
Layby allows you to pay for your plate in installments. Once your plate is paid for in full you can then request to have your plates manufactured.
Using this payment method means you won't receive your plates until you have paid your plate off in full.
If you don't want to wait, you can choose AfterPay or another payment method to get your plates immediately.
Account2Account, via Payment Express NZ, lets you make a purchase without using a credit card. When you pay with A2A, you use the security of your online banking to make a payment to KiwiPlates. You will be redirected to Account 2 Account to complete your order.

Approval Process
Lastly we are required to review the content of your plate to ensure it isn’t offensive to other road users
Once approved. You’ll receive an order confirmation with a right to receive certificate which confirms your entitlement to that combination.

Delivery
Your plates will be delivered via secure courier within 7-15 working days.
A tracking number will be emailed to you.
You will need to contact the manufacturer (Licensys) to have the plates made anytime you choose. Manufacturing and delivery is FREE within 180 days of your order, to have your plates made and delivered after 180 days will incur a fee, payable to Licensys.

Yes you can. You can buy personalised plates and then get them made at a later date, when you have a registered vehicle to attach them to.
